ginggs!

please create image with new version 1.31

Is there any chance the updated Realtek driver can be included in the official Monowall release?
Tomorrow i'll try 1.32

This was intentionally not fixed.  MK looked at what was involved at the type of change would cause existing Realtek users to break on upgrade as the interface name would change as this driver replaces the existing driver for multiple Realtek chipsets.

If someone was to remote upgrade their system, it would become offline.  This type of change has previously being kept between versions, i.e. 1.2 to 1.3 and it's made very clear to users the problems with upgrades.

then MK will continue to produce a system less and less compatible with modern equipment in favor of remote updates?
Maybe worth to release the update, and as previously with 8MB cf card in red to notify changes.

Updated for 1.32:
generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img.gz (8.4MB)
MD5SUM: 993e7f1dfd253ab66ef2322dd8162c5c

I have not yet had a chance to test this yet, so please report if it works.

I successfully upgraded from 1.3 to 1.32.  As before, when upgrading please ignore the warning that the image is unsigned.

Ginggs, thank you very much. But already spent a lot of time trying to find, compile and integrate the driver in an existing installation of 1.32.

That's a very very general statement.  There is no reason to believe this is so.  As I indicated, the integration of Realtek's newer drivers is not a straightforward one and requires more work than MK or I had time for this weekend. Even if we had coded the changes to allow this to work without changing interface names for existing users, testing this doesn't cause systems to break is very important for existing users.

However frustrated you are that this isn't in 1.32, imagine how frustrated you'd be if you upgraded and had a non functioning system.

The time to test this plus have users test it, means that it just wouldn't make 1.32.  Maybe it will fit into 1.33.

Maybe worth to release the update, and as previously with 8MB cf card in red to notify changes.

Those type of changes have been kept for step releases, like 1.2 to 1.3 ...

Thank brushedmoss! Maybe I was too harsh in my statements. You are doing great work for free.
Special thanks to Ginggs for integrating the latest drivers.

Thanks a lot for the remade images. A quick question about the provided links, though.

The links are to .gz archives of the img files, which is fine. But when I try to unzip the archive (gunzip generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img.gz), gzip errors and says that the file is not in gzip format.

Any help would be great- I'm using the latest gzip release in Ubuntu 10.04, but that shouldn't really matter...
Do I have to verify the archive with md5sum somehow?

They should gunzip fine, the sizes should be 8858114 bytes compressed and 10485760 bytes uncompressed.
Code:
$ md5sum generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img.gz
993e7f1dfd253ab66ef2322dd8162c5c  generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img.gz
Code:
$ zcat generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img.gz >generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img
$ md5sum generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img
11908c6c469633633d2c243f6b03fe28  generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img
You do not need to gunzip the file if you are upgrading.

That's interesting... When I md5sum the .gz archive, it gives me the following:

Code:
$ md5sum generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img.gz
11908c6c469633633d2c243f6b03fe28  generic-pc-1.32-rl-1.79.img.gz

This is having *just* downloaded the file- nothing else has happened to it, it's just downloaded with a file size of 10485760 bytes. I've checked this a few times (deleting the file, re-downloading it), and it definitely seems that I'm getting the uncompressed file which claims to be a .gz archive.

Edit:
Never mind. I just cat'd the .gz file to an unsuffixed file, then copied that directly to the CompactFlash. The write worked, but it seems that my driver was in another proverbial castle. Thanks for all the help.

Weird, seems like something is gunzipping on the fly, maybe my hosting provider.  What happens if you right-click on my link and choose "Save Link As..."?

Wow, alright, now I feel stupid. Yeah, 'Save as' was the magical solution that I couldn't figure out. But yeah, it looks like I still need a different driver... Thanks for the help.

I think it's great that you've gone through this process for us! Could you please prive an ISO to burn for us Windows dummies? I've tried everything to try and unzip but now luck.

Thanks
