I just have got an old HP e-PC I would like to use as a firewall. The Problem is that is has only 1 on-board LAN adapter and no PCI-Slots. Luckily it has 2 USB ports. I would use the USB NIC as the WAN adapter and the internal NIC for LAN.

Does monowall support USB Lan adapters, and if, which are recommended?

I could find the following on the German amazon Website

Thank you

Very few cards are supported in 1.2. More are supported in the 1.3 beta version, but it may be hard to find a supported one. I haven't checked, but I wouldn't recommend using USB at all.

USB networking, especially on an old PC which is only USB 1.1, sucks. You're looking at a maximum throughput of about 500 KB/sec, and it'll introduce a couple ms latency where a typical PCI NIC will be less than a tenth that.

I recommend finding a different piece of hardware so you can use PCI NIC's.

I already imagined that the USB NIC was not a good idea.  Cry
