Hi all,

This morning, for the first time, i had my first issue with m0n0.... Cry

I have puchased a D-Link DFE-580TX from eBay, installed it into my m0n0 box ran the console menu : all 4 ports were detected. I then setup LAN and opt 1 to 3.... Since then, DHCP fails to deliver IP addresses.....

I did not change anything else at all. Before i had a Realtek 8139 as LAN nic, it was named RL1 by the system, might this be the source of my problem ?

My configuration is rather simple : m0n0 1.3b4 running on a VIA C3 530Mhz Thin client. Built in NIC as WAN and the DFE-580TX as LAN/OPT nic.... At the moment nothing is connected to the OPT interfaces.
The only thing connected to LAN Interface is an Asus WL500g router configured as a simple wireless acces point. I'm also using the asus's built-in switch to connect my wired client. Neither wired or wireless clients receive an IP. Connecting a wired client directly to the LAN port brings nothing too....

Setting up IP addresses manually on each clients allows me to do everything i want to do.....

Here is how my DHCP log looks like, weird :

Thank you for reading

Edit :I tried reseting m0n0 to defaults, it did not work. However, using the built-in NIC as Lan interface works fine, DHCP is dispatching IPs well... But i still want to have my LAN interface on my DFE-580TX  Grin

Back to my problem.... When having one of the DFE-580TX's ports configured as WAN interface i noticed that sometimes some websites (e.g. ebay or freebsd.org) do not load properly, Firefox is stuck "transfering data from xxx.com"... The logs are showing stuff about oversize frames being discarded.........

Might this be an MTU issue? Or somethign is broken in the ste driver ?

I just put back my RL8139 in my box......... I'm very frustrated, my m0n0 box is not geeky at all anymore  Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy Grin Cheesy
I'm waiting for an intel dual port nic card i just ordered..... We'll see how this is playing....

sorry i can't help you with this but i use a 10/100 dual port intel nic (dell) and that's working fine. it's using the fxp driver.

try to disable the realtek nic in the bios and only use the dfe. you might have a irq sharing problem?

Thank you for the tip ! Smiley
I did not think about an IRQ sharing issue, but this sounds like a good starting point. Is there a way in m0n0 where we can see to which device each IRQ is assigned?
Maybe if there is an IRQ conflict it might be with some other device. Before installing the DFE i had already disabled USB, sound, LPT... I have kept COM port enabled (in case i need to access the console via serial), but i will kick them too.....

@bitonw

You were right, it's an IRQ issue.... Unfortunately there is no way to kick the built in nic... It's a thin client meant to work over network maybe this is the reason of this.....
For some reasons the integrated NIC always gets the same IRQ than one of the DFE's port.... When manually assigning IRQs into the bios i can clearely see it, and there is no way to "unlink" both.... Is there a way to force FreeBSD to reassign an IRQ?

Ok, i finally received my 10/100 dual Intel nic. It is workin fine, even if fxp1 and rl0 are still sharing the same IRQ......
At least i have an OPT interface now Smiley
