Hello everyone,

How about making M0n0wall 1.3b (or start a new branch) based on FreeBSD 7? It's said that it's network stack is faster, and it's SMP support is superior, and has better wireless networks support.

It's still beta right now, but the release is coming soon.

So, what do you think?

1.3 should be based on 6.2/6.3/whatever the current 6.x release is. 7.0 is not going to be considered a production release, hence m0n0wall should wait until the 7.x release that's considered production before moving.

At the moment the beta is slower than the stable 4.x based version, as a matter of fact. So I do really hope Freebsd 7.0 core will be considered for the final 1.3 m0n0wall release because network speed in 7.0 is way better than 6.x, then you have also better hardware support for a lot of USB network cards based on the new "axe" chipsets.

Yes please, can we have the rum driver, and better USB WIFI support generally of FreeBSD 7. Ralink RT2500USB devices are virtually unobtainable now, as the new products are all RT2501USB.  Also the Edimax EW-7318USg based on the Ralink RT2501USB chipset has a sma connector on it for using directional antenna.  Smiley
