Hi there,

Yesterday I got my new ALIX 2c3 and now I'm having problems with the installation/bootup.
I use the 1.3b4 release on a 128 MB CF card. "Installation" was done first with the windows tool and then dd as described in the manual.

When I connect the power the POST code display shows 00 which means (AFAIK) "boot". Even after over 6 hours it stays "00". Well, so DHCP on the LAN-interface doesn't work too, but LEDs show link, cables should be OK.

So I'm going to buy a serial cable to check if I can adjust something in the menu.

Has anyone an idea what else I could try? Thanks very much in advance!

You'll definitely need that serial cable, as you'll have to change the interface names from sisX (default in 'wrap' image) to vrX.

OK, thank you very much.

So this option can only be changed in the menu via serial connection? I ask this because I found a sis0 entry in config.xml.

Just to be sure, could someone please confirm the terminal settings?

Port:                COMx
Baud:                38400
Data:                8bit
Parity:              none
Stop:                1bit
Flow control:        none

Thanks in advance.

Well yes, you could of course also prepare a CF card with the interface names pre-adjusted in the configuration.

Those are correct for ALIX default settings.

Thanks.

The "problem" is now solved: I tried a wrong serial cable ;-) Then a friend of mine helped me out, now everything works fine.

Thanks for such a great tool as m0n0wall!

Im in a similar position. I have the new ALIX board and need to change the interface names. Ive modified the WRAP/ALIX image with some changes to the config.xml in /default.conf (using workon.sh).

Im just guessing here that is the correct file to edit? I set my lan <if> to vr1 and my wan to vr0. And also set the lan ip to 10.50.0.5 (an ip in the range my network runs) -- hoping that it would be as simple as that.

Ive not been able to ping that ip after flashing the new image. Am i editing the right config file?

I tried the obvious, made sure i had the cable in the correct port, etc.

Thanks

if you use the latest beta 11/23/07 the interface names are auto changed for ALIX boards, I did the installation without a serial cable.
