M0n0wall as access point on ALIX.3c2

Hi,
I got a brand new ALIX.3c2 board. This board got only one ethernet and I plugged one Atheros wi-fi card.
I want to use it as an access point. Mono 1.3 has great support for Atheros cards
LAN ----- Mono ----- Wifi
To get access to it I need to put the eth on LAN and then Wi-fi on Wan. But that way I cannot set correctly the dhcp server and the routes.
Did someone got the solution for it ?

You need to acces your m0n0 through serial connection From here you'll be able to set LAN ip and DHCP from the console.

Yes, I know.
But if LAN is set on the atheros wi-fi card, then I cannot connect.
The serial console did not let me set the ssid and type of connection.
Or maybe I miss something

don't put wifi on lan, bridge it... then you will be able to connect to it through lan and wifi

Hi,
Yes good idea, but Monowall does not allow to bridge lan and wan.
You can only bridge optx to lan or wan.
And I got only 2 interfaces.
Hmm, big problem.
Actually I am using a second wi-fi card in it ast opt1 and bridged lan with it.
Wan is used to link to my real firewall (ALIX2c3) connected to cable network
internet ---- Alix2c3 ---- wifi-a(opt1) oooooo wifi-a(wan)----Alix3c2----wifi-b(opt1)
| |
|------- Lan-1 |----------- Lan-2
Wifi-a is used only to link the 2 firewalls (802.11a)
Wifi-b is for other equipments like psp, ps3, wii and in 802.11g
Lan-1 is only used for maintenance
Lan-2 is my real local network for wired components
If someone as a better idea, I am open.
I just like to split the Alix3c2 into 2 different ones. one AP and one link

You may have to use VLAN
Just an idea.
Never try to setup VLAN on m0n0wall, but if you don't attach the phys. LAN Interface to any VLAN but only the WAN
you should be fine (If this works)
This will give you eth0 on the phy. Lan Interface and WAN on the VLAN....
That you can bridge LAN and WLAN...
I just ordered the same board as you have and was about to use DD-WRT on it.
But i will try this myself (m0n0wall with VLAN)

I just tested it
I loaded 1.3b4
Boots fine on my ALIX (128MB 433MHz 1x NIC)
Yes -> VLAN
Assign LAN to vr0
assign WAN to ath0
set IP as needed
Go to Webgui.
Assign WAN to VLAN
Assign ath_0 to OPT1
bridge OPT1 with LAN
reboot
setup Wireless
Works !!!

Hi,
You assign the vlan on ath0 then.
I have made it slightly different.
vr0: LAN
vr0 VLAN: WAN
ath0: OPT1
Then bridged OPT1 and LAN
But I will test your solution to see if it is better
Thx

I guess this will not make any difference
The gole was to get a "fake Interface" for Wan
Anyway it works for me here, but since i use DD-WRT for my Accesspoints, i don't
m0n0wall setup this way
Was just a test for you
Let me know if it works

Thanks,
It works also by putting a Vlan on ath0.
