Hi everybody,

is it possible to compile the driver for the current Ralink Chipsets into M0n0wall? The driver is part of FreeBSD 7 but unfortunetly not in FreeBSD 6.2.

I found a working Patch at the FreeBSD.org Mailinglist to add support for rum (4) to FreeBSD 6.x:
http://people.freebsd.org/~kevlo/patch-rum-RELENG_6

I think it would make the whole USB WLAN part much easier. Nowdays it's really hard to find a USB WLAN Card which is supported by ural (4) since nearly all the newer Versions of this USB WLAN Cards use rum (4).

I'll hope you find this also usefull and thanks a lot in advance.

Greetings,
Gerrit

Hallo,

Thank you very much already for your explanation in your post. I'm desperately trying to get a Asus WL-167g usb stick to work in FreeBSD6.2, until I found your post and saw, that not ural but rum is working with my WL167g _V2_!
So I think I have the possibility, to either install FreeBSD7.0 or patch 6.2 with the patch you linked to.
I think I want to try first if 6.2 with the patch works so far, but I have a complete newbie question:
How to patch my 6.2 with this diff?
"patch <patch-rum-RELENG_6" is not really working, he asks for every file location of file to be patched. Is this correct? Shouldn't it find the files by itself?

Thank you very much,

Maximilian

Okay, I think I succeeded in using patch, just for the records:
cd /usr/src
patch -p1 <patch_file

But now I run into the problem, that all diffs could be applied, except the patch to /usr/src/sys/net80211/ieee80211_amrr.c, because this file is missing on my system. Other files in this net80211 such as _node _acl, _crypto etc are there, but _amrr.* is missing.
What is wrong, what can I do?

Thank you very much!

Best regards,
Maximilian

UPDATE: i did an update of my source tree of FreeBSD6.2, but still no ieee80211_amrr.* there. Any ideas howto get them?

Yes please, can we have support for the Ralink RT2501USB chipset. The RT2500USB is now obsolete and even in devices that used to have it have been updated to the new 2501.

If there is anyone who knows how to patch mono 1.3b15 with the rum(4) driver that would be lovely and get me lots of thanks from my girlfriend!  Smiley
