Hi all,

I'm using a very old version of m0n0wall (version 1.0) and I wanted to upgrade today (ISO-CD).
Now, I have an old Compaq Intel with 192MB of RAM and a 266Mhz CPU and every version of m0n0wall higher than 1.0 (version 1.1 and up)  stops booting after

sio1: type 16550A

Any ideas? I'm not a Unix guru, but maybe someone can help me. I googled for it and sio1 seems to be something with the external on-board interfaces. I tried to disable them in the BIOS, but nothing helped.

Regards, Thomas

That's your second COM port. Apparently a FreeBSD glitch has made your hardware stop working in newer releases.

I'd try with all COM ports disabled in the BIOS, and also with them enabled on varying settings. Also make sure you have the latest BIOS version, it might be a glitch in your BIOS that wasn't apparent until changes in later FreeBSD versions, BIOS upgrades fix a lot of hardware issues.
