I am new here and a long time IPCop user. Wanting to make the switch to MonoWall. Is this good hardware to purchase?

I have a fairly busy (one page hit every 5 seconds) website/email server behind my router and will have one VPN connection throughout the day.

I want a 1U box.

IMHO, the processor, RAM, and storage are all excessive, and probably have a lot of influence on the price. However, units closer to meeting the minimum m0n0wall requirements aren't hugely cheaper.

for 1U hardware I use a Net5501-70 and drill 7 small holes in a 1U blank for the LEDs and attach the modified blank to that ugly green case with four 4-40 screws.  Looks professional and takes less than 45 minutes to complete.  I can send you a picture if you PM me your e-mail address.

Sadly I don't even want to do that! I might cut myself.  Cheesy

Well it is good to know the box at least is above requirements. Thanks guys.

I have over 40 of these in production there overkill but we stream 100's of cameras site to site with some of them and there rock solid.

That sounds cool - would you mind attaching the pictures to a post in this thread? If you hit "additional options" beneath the post you can upload images.

I just shipped it off to a customer two days ago.  Sorry about that.  If I build another one I will be sure and post some pictures.  It looked very professional and all it really lacked was some silk screening or engraving but it was going into a data center (never to be seen again) so I didn't bother marking the LED indicators.

FYI: Standard non-tempered aluminum blanks will work but tempered aluminum blanks drill much cleaner and therefore look a bit better.  Also, I wouldn't recommend using steel blanks.
