Got my cable, and this thing's firmware was on 0.99, which is a rather recent version...

Only newer version was 0.99b which according to their list only added a PCI table entry for a certain miniPCI wireless card...

Just for the hell of it I -did- upgrade... and the problem still persists.

*sigh* / *grr*

Any other clues?

I would try throwing together an old PC for a quick test and if 1.3b11 still has the problem try 1.233.  BTW, who is your ISP?

ISP is Charter Communications.  (Cable, using a Motorola Surfboard 5101 modem)

I've not much else to do, so I'll throw a PC together right now.  Actually it's mostly together I'll just have to burn the CD and get it installed.  And I'll likely be scrapping said machine come this weekend, hehe.

At the moment I've switched to using my Zyxel Prestige 324; it does not exhibit the problem.

I'll report back in a bit; this will certainly be interesting to see.  If it (still) does it on this PC, completely different hardware, it's gotta be m0n0wall.  Otherwise it's gotta be the Alix board.

Whelp... I just tried that PC, and it had a fairly odd happening itself.

The only network cable that would give me lights on either NIC was the one from the cable modem.

None of my computer's CAT5s would work, thus I couldn't connect to the box to use or even config it.

Sooo that looks like a no-go.  =/  And that would have been a pretty definite test too.  =/

And that's the only thing free that I have too.  =(

if you are plugging the PC directly into the firewall, you will need a crossover cable.  a newer NIC on either end will auto-detect and electronically do a crossover.

I thought of that, but I'm pretty sure all NICs involved are auto-sensing.

But I didn't actually try it out of frustration, so hmm.  I'll give it a go soon, may not be till tomorrow night though.

Well that was indeed the problem (should have known anyway)...

But then, it doesn't detect the NICs in that box; two Linksys LNE100TX's.  Really common card + chipset, and I know FreeBSD supports them.

No idea what's causing that one...

are you still running 1.3b11?  if you do console choice "1" it doesn't show any NICs to choose from?  I never use the auto detect feature I just assign the top one to the LAN and the 2nd one to the WAN.

Won't be able to mess with it when I get home, but... I was using auto detect, link was up, and it was not detecting the link...

As well, it does seem to set one of the NICs to 192.168.1.1, and I could not ping/access that IP on either NIC.  I will certainly poke at it once again later today.

Just messed with it... and it shows I have two NICs (dc0/dc1), and I can indeed assign them, but there is just no connecting to them after the fact =/

Bit late, and I don't have a microphone, but yeah...

Searching for byzuser should find it.
