Just wondering if anyone had successfully installed m0n0wall on any mini-ITX hardware. I want to upgrade from my Soekris net4801 to something with Gigabit NICs for the LAN and DMZ ports. I would prefer to have something small, quiet, and low power like the net4801.

It's easy to get a used PC for next to nothing, pop a couple of cheap Gigabit NICs in it, and call it good, but that offends my sensibilities - not to mention that it wastes space and power.

I have half convinced myself to just buy the hardware and see if it works, but I'd love to hear from others first.

Thanks!

Rob

can realy help you but i have it installed on a pentium 2 and it's running fine. those mini itx boards should work too. the only thing you have to check in the freebsd compat list is the used hardware / nics etc... other then that i can't realy see any reason why it shouldn't work...

I know there are quite a few people running mini ITX hardware, whether or not they'll show up on this thread is another question. I personally haven't, but there's a lot of info on the wiki and in the list archives.

I've run m0n0wall on a 1GHz mini-itx board before. Routes at 100mb wirespeed without breaking a sweat.

I run on a Lex Light fanless system with an Eden 533 processor.  3 NIC's. Lovely small unit.  http://linitx.com/index.php?cPath=14_112_46
Would recomend using a surge protected socket, as had one go pop after a power cut.
Mine was the 3 x 100MB NIC. They do have one with one 1GB Nic, not sure about the FreeBSD compatability though.

Core talk!
mOnOwall to use mOnOwall with a new FreeBSD Kernal, say 5.2. with market hardware that does not appear to be compatible with FreeBSD 4.9.
