When I go to download it says the version offered there does NOT work on ALIX, and you're supposed to use a new beta version instead.

My impression were that ALIX-boards had worked for like years or so....they're not THAT new really, and I guess there aren't really anything better to buy for a small home-router to run M0n0 on.

So, whats up with this? What are you supposed to run M0n0 on if ALIX-boards aren't supported for real yet?
A board like this one for example...these boards aren't THAT new are they?

PCengines ALIX boards are less than a year old.  I have two that are currently running 1.3b11 that have been running for over five months and have had zero problems.  I mostly use the Soekris Net5501 but they cost almost twice as much as the ALIX hardware.

Ok, thanks, didn't know they were that new.
So whats the difference then between the ALIX boards and the earlier WRAP-boards mentioned everywhere?
This one for example seems to be named ALIX but also it says "Wireless Router Application Platform" which could mean its a old WRAP board or what???
Can anyone tell?

Nice to hear the beta version is stable by the way, thanks for that feedback.

There isn't a whole lot different in the beta version from the "stable" version, it's definitely stable.

The WRAP boards were 266 MHz, ALIX are 500 MHz. WRAP boards have been out of stock pretty much everywhere for quite some time. There was a gap between the end of WRAP production and the beginning of ALIX production, towards the end of that timeframe it was very difficult to find anyone selling WRAP hardware. So I doubt if anyone still has WRAP hardware for sale today. That's probably a remnant of what used to be on the site, but I'd contact the vendor to make sure. The ALIX boards are significantly faster, and actually a bit cheaper than what the WRAPs cost.

Ah ok, so this boards is then a ALIX, just as the name says, since its a 433MHz CPU.

And WRAPs are only 266MHz and I only saw 433 and 500 at that Swedish store so guess they dont have any old WRAPs there, even though it says "Wireless Router Application Platform" on SOME of them which got me confused.

Tja Seb74!

No, haven't bought one, and maybe wont until a few months....just checking it out a little.
I feel more secure buying within sweden, in case somethings wrong or anything, and I've bought from icd before and they were very nice, giving me a newer more expensive chassi for the same price as the older one I ordered since it was unavailable Smiley

I guess 433MHz is just as good as 500MHz for regular homeuse with at best sometime in the future a 100Mb WAN-connection.

I have just setup my ALIX2c3 board with monowall and it works but is not stable. It will work for 10-20 minutes then I can't access the Internet or the web gui. Resetting it repeates this process. I have road runner and a switch connected to it. It is acting as a dhcp server nut I have also assigned maunal ips and tried to access it from different clients and mac windows and Linux. I can ping it but it appears to do nothing useful. Is there something I am doing wrong that makes this unstable? I have ip cop on annother pc and it works fine with identical settings. When this came in the mail I simply swapped the two boxes.

ok so I tried a few things since my last post. I tried reflashing the CF card. I tried a different CF card. I tried PFsense on another CF card. PFsense does the exact same thing. I have an internet connection for about 10 min then nothing. Yet I can still ping the box and I can use the firewall to ping google etc outside. I just cant access the internet from any machine or the web interface to change any settings or see the status of the firewall. I am not really sure what I should try to do next.... I have seen a few people read this post since I posted it. Can anyone help?Huh

Looks like nobody has a solution to your problem, and I have to admit that I don't have either. I was going to suggest that the power supply of your ALIX board may be flaky, but that doesn't really explain why you can still ping it when it hangs (although it's still a possibility that the PSU is at fault, so try another one if you can).

You could also try posting your (anonymized) config.xml here - maybe somebody spots something that could cause this rather inexplicable behavior.
