Hi!

I've got a 25000/2500 kbit/s line from cablecom switzerland and when I use the magic shaper wizard to create the default configuration, the maximum throughput I get is ~17'000 kbit/s.

when I disable traffic shaping, the performance test shows up to 25'000 as it should, but as soon as I enable traffic shaping, it drops back to ~17.

if I manually set the bandwith of one of the pipes down to 3000, the performance tests also slows down to 3000 as expected, but above 17000 the performance test gets stuck there..

is this a known limitation or am I doing something wrong?

thanks!

ps: I'm using m0n0wall on a soekris box

What are the values for the pipes on this page?

firewall_shaper_pipes.php

box is an "net48xx"

the pipes are: (created by shaper wizard, I entered 25000/2500 in the setup form)
1) 2250 kbit/s upload
2) 23750 kbit/s download

for example, if I change the download pipe to 10'000, I also get only 10'000 in the performance test. when I go above 17'000 I will never get more than 17'000.. very strange :-/

have you checked the CPU utilization with and without the TS enabled?   also, you might want to try enabling "Device Polling" (system_advanced.php).  BTW, what version of m0n0wall are you using?

thanks for your input!

firmware is 1.22 because I cant upgrade right now (lost my CF reader)

cpu usage with and without TS is between 70 and 80%.
after enabling "device polling" the cpu is nearly idle!

now to the good news:

I did the performance test again with device polling enabled and I've got a new high score: 19'213 kbit/s !!

although I have to wait until tomorrow to continue testing..  internet "rush hour" has started here and the network is very busy, so I wouldnt get much more than 20 or 21'000 even with TS disabled.. but it looks very promising!

I will report back tomorrow!

thanks again!!

I'm thinking you might be out of CPU.  Time to spend some money and upgrade to a net5501 or Alix hardware.

got the same figures in the performance test today with polling enabled.. up to 19'000. a small improvement but still not enough.

I think I will try to replace the box with a faster one

thanks CS!
