I booted from USB imaged with generic-pc-1.234.img
It shows 6 options.
I set my LAN IP to a valid internal network IP with the correct mask.
It wont ping anything, and I can't ping from here, but I can ping other local pcs.
I turned off the firewall.

Actually, I'm not posting to troubleshoot so much as ask out to get out of the 6 option setup screen. 
I'd like to ifconfig, check irq's, log...

Also it would be nice to have the menu also display current settings, like the IP address assigned to x adapter.

Did you RTFM?

You don't "get out" of that screen IIRC, you connect to the local IP with a web browser and do the configuration from there.
