Running 1.3b11 and I see theres a couple of new versions since mine.

Is it like totally safe to use the automatic updater, without starting from scratch with configs and stuff....have a pretty huge config here with 4 physical interfaces being used plus two VLAN's and lots of firewall-rules and NAT-rules.

And does it load from the web, cause I anyway dont know how to get the files into my wrap over the network from some of the other pc's.

Anyway, are there ever some real security-updates for M0n0wall....is it unsecure so you have to patch it all the time to be secure, or is it mainly optimization and new features and such?

Thanks Smiley

Always make a backup of your configuration file before updating the firmware, no matter what is said about not having to do this.

Very rarely is there a security flaw that is addresses by an update. The rest are new feature and bug fixes.

In the "diagnostic" menu, you have a import/export. You upload and download the configuration on any regular web browser: it's a small xml file.

Never had an issue during an upgrade, but the very worst can happen is you lose everything and m0n0wall does not boot anymore: then you just write again the CF with a "clean" updated .img file, you open the default m0n0 ip with the default mono password, and you "import" the old configuration from your computer: in 5 minutes you would be ready to go again, so I don't see the big deal of a failed upgrade.

Bye

Ah, ok, thanks.
So it should never be any big deal automatically upgrading to a new image.
The old config should always work?

I guess it could always be so bad that it looks like the old config works, but for some reason some firewall rule or something important like that doesn't work as it should....oh well, I dont think I dare upgrade Cheesy

EDIT: Or well, this doesn't sound very good either...dont really know what it means, but sounds bad. Maybe safer to update anyway Cheesy
WAN IP ain't static so could theoretically change anytime for me.

"fixed a long standing bug with regenerating firewall rules (including automatically generated ones) that reference the WAN interface when the WAN IP address changes"

The following input errors were detected:
    * The uploaded image file is not for this platform (wrap).

I have an ALIX, and downloaded the embedded image as the text on downloadpage suggested.
M0n0wall dont like it though, and thinks I should upgrade with a WRAP-image, but there are no wrap-images from what I can see.
The one currently installed is "wrap-1.3b11.img", even though I have a ALIX but ALIX/WRAP seems to be like the same thing only ALIX is newer.

So, how do I upgrade, if possible?

WARNING: this version (any platform) no longer fits on 8 MB CF cards! (>= 16 MB required)

But I have a 1GB card installed.

When upgrading from generic-pc 1.2x, you must install 1.3b7 first before you install this image. Other platforms are not affected.
But I have 1.3b11 installed now.

Thanks Smiley

The red box just above the download links:

If you're already running a previous version of m0n0wall on a Soekris or PC Engines board, download the "embedded" image and rename it to reflect your current platform in order to upgrade via the webGUI (i.e. replace "embedded" in the filename by "net45xx", "net48xx" or "wrap").
