my subjective opinion:

M0n0wall is an excellent  product, but for those people who do not have the expertise like others here, we find ourselves trying to resolve issues that might be very easy to do for most of you; however, I find the experts' response lacking on this forum. If you were to look at the number of posts and how many of them actually have replies regarding the issue or resolving it, I would say not even 50% of them get an answer. I believe that's the difference between a great product that's free and a great product that costs money.

A product that you have to pay for comes with some level of support while a product like M0n0wall relies on developers to answer questions or the few that know the answer to be active enough to respond.  Of course, another reason for this lack of response is that M0n0wall is one of many firewall solutions available and although a great solution for many, probably not the number one choice or a product that carries a large number of users.

I use M0n0wall and i'm extremely happy with everything, but I have found out the hard way as far as getting an answer. I must say that rather than asking a question, I had to read the handbook and in some cases, I was still confused about my personal set up that I ended up asking at work or finding answers online outside of our forum. Today, I think m0n0wall was the best choice for me and I love it; however, in contrast, I would like to see an active forum that provides answers even to the "dull and ignorant" like Astaro public boards.

my firewall has been running strong for over a year. Earlier this year I had issues like a good number of people and most of them were in the handbook and only a handfull I was able to address by reading the forums; however, I was looking at the vmware appliance version of m0n0 and i started looking at this particular forum for users' opinions about it, but what I found was a number of posts that had very little replies. I guess my post is not about asking for help but rather an observation of an excellent product and the difficulties to maintain an active forum where everyone can get an answer.

It is too late to move my post or delete, but I was only making a constructive criticism. I like the product and i've been lucky to find the answers i need here and on google.
