I was wondering if my throughput shouldn't be more then the 37,9 Mbits/secs i'm getting now with iperf.

My M0n0wall router is a AMD Athlon 1Ghz i386 PC with 768mb ram.
Network card is a "Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection Version - 6.7.2" Dual 1gbit port.

em0 is used for the wan
em1 is used for 4x vlan subnets
My switch is a HP procurve 2626 with one of the gbit ports connected to em1 trunk.

I start iperf in server mode on a linux Etch machine on the dmz (vlan).
Iperf client on a Windows XP machine on the Lan (vlan).
Throughput 37,9Mbit/sec
CPU load 77%

Test with FTP server/client, same throughput.

Swiching on/of the traffic shaper does not change anything.
Is the vlan setup the cause of the low throughput?

I run it on a tiny 433MHz ALIX (AMD Geode CPU) and with the built in NIC's (not the best from what I've understood) I get around 70Mbps when doing a http-download from my webserver on another interface.

I also use VLANs in my LAN that I tested download from, but the webserver is on another physical interface (got three physical in the ALIX).

So yes, if you talk Mb and not MB it sounds like extremely slow routing indeed.

Hmmm now I have to figure out why its this slow on my router.
