i have m0n0wall configured with dns forwarding enabled and hostnames/IPs configured for hosts on the LAN.

this is in place so i can access services from the LAN just as from the WAN. the mail, web, and other servers are all generally available by name inside or out.

on my laptop, i find lookups sometimes report the WAN address and cause access to services (imap, http, etc.) to fail.

if this a local resolver issue fromt he client side (os x 10.5.6) or something flaky with the dns forwarder? has anyone else seen similar issues?

I am facing the exact same problem. It happens like this on and of even when I have disabled the DNS forwarder.

yes, it's a local resolver issue with 10.5.x. be sure to hand out only one dns server (the local one) to your dhcp range, and that may solve it.
