Fellow m0n0wallers,

I recently purchased a Nokia IP650 and am trying to load m0n0wall on it, but am having major issues.  I've already spent hours with little headway.

I've written the generic m0n0 image to a 64MB CF and the device boots, but does not see the Znxy ZX414 4 port ethernet card.

I created the DOS bootable CF using the HP utility and it will NOT boot.  It shows one line of text with strange characters.  My Dell laptop boots fine off this CF however.  (I created this to use the Intel erupdate.exe utility to modify the MAC addresses.)

I downloaded Freesbie (FreeBSD CD boot CD) and mounted the m0n0wall CF and thought I could modify m0n0wall's config file, but since m0n0wall didn't see the 4 ethernet nics on the ZX414, there are no entries for them in the config file.

I also have the IPSO 4.0.1 CF image and loaded that on a CF.  The IP650 loads boot manager, but then shows "cannot read from nvram" (or simething of that nature.)  The ethernet ports on the ZX414 do light up with link lights however.

Does anyone have any experience with this?  Any suggestions?

For background the Nokia IP650 is a P3 on an Intel motherboard.  m0n0wall sees the ethernet port built on the motherboard, but this (and the VGA, keyboard, etc.) is inaccessable when the unit is in it's case.

I have a linux machine w/ USB capability and can use dd to r/w to the CF card.  I have the bootable FreeBSD CD and can also mount the CF card with that.  I also have Windows of course.

It looks like they sometimes work with the de driver, but you may need the driver from znyx's site. They haven't updated them since 2001. You might try their last FreeBSD 4.x driver and try to compile it on a 4.11 install. From there you would need to modify the image to load the driver, or build a custom kernel. Then you might be able to get m0n0wall 1.2x running on it. Or, you could ebay an fxp based nic and save yourself the time and aggravation.

Arg, that sounds like more work than I have time for.

Since these boxes are cheap and plentiful on ebay seems like this would be a desirable platform to support.

I think I'll give pfsense a try next...

pfsense doesn't work either, but for different reasons.  I got a bigger CF card (256MB) and loaded the latest pfsense image on it.  When I put the CF card in the IP650 and boot it, the box tries to boot but displays-

Read Error

Not sure what is up, if the BIOS can't read a 256MB CF (it sees it as a hard drive) or something else is going on.

If anyone has any suggestions I'm all ears.
