Just got MaxTerm thin client and tried to make router out of them. Found that any BSD-based images I tried (Monowall, Askozia, pfSense) crash during boot. Every attempt ends by "BTX Halted".

Maybe I have a well known incompatibility, that is described somewhere else under another hardware name?

HW: Maxterm 8300 thin client with Elitegroup EVEM v3 mainboard, 800 MHz VIA EZRA CPU (is it C3?), CF-IDE adapter, 512M RAM.

Used built-in VGA to monitor what's happens. Unit is perfectly stable with Windows XP Embedded image that was initially installed.

I've got a maxterm 3300 running one of my two monowalls and its running great for the past few years. I checked the specs and its very similar to yours.

maybe its the CF you're using. are you using a different cf than the one that came with it? (the one that has xp embedded on it)

I made a backup of it using winimage i believe or a similar program, and reused the same cf. There are some cf out there that don't like being dumped a bootable os on them (like the two lexars platinum i bought recently)
