Hi,

I've just been given two Firebox III X700 for the voluntary rescue service i support.

I've loaded m0n0wall onto a CF card and it all powers up and boots nicely but then the network ports don't appear to work.

Having read the forums it would appear alterations need to be made, does anyone or can anyone supply me with a working version of m0n0wall thats been modded for the FBIII, as i don't have the software knowledge to hack the code - hardware is my specialitiy, code confuses me totally.

Thanks

Ian

The X700 is a more modern firebox than the Series III 700. IIRC, the X700 is a 1U box, the FB III boxes were 2U units. I'm assuming you have a newer model, as the FB III didn't have a CF card. I would try the 1.3 beta version if you're not already. You also might want to check out the pfsense forum, there is an ongoing thread about the Firebox X-series there.

Hi,

Its definatley a 700 unit, 2u Rack mount model number F2064N, we've put in a 44pin to CF Card Adapter to load m0n0wall onto which has worked and the unit boots with and shows on the serial console, but the three network ports don't configure.

I am embarking on a similar project, installing m0n0 on  a firebox II 700.  ( mod nr F2064N )
I am going to try following this guide, maybe it will help you as well.

Please post your discoveries and experiences here,  and I will post mine Smiley

m0n0wall won't run on a Firebox III, there are some issues with the NICs that prevent recognizing them properly. You may also run into problems with the diskcontroller.
The only solution is building your own slightly modified kernel, add the required toold and add the m0n0wall scripts. I've managed to do so with freebsd 4.4 and 6.4 a few months ago.
