I am building a home firewall with generic PC hardware.

Which Wi-Fi PCI card do you recommend?

Should I better go with Access Point instead to save me the hassle? (I already have the needed number of Ethernet ports) I am reluctant to use extra boxes where not necessary, and to pay extra too.

An access point is a fairly painless way to go about it.  You have the advantage of positioning it away from the M0n0 box as well.  Not to mention, you can get Wireless-N with an access point (or router) but Wireless N cards won't be seeing driver support anytime soon.

Hi there to all i just want to point that I'm using m0n0wall with generic PC with these specifications:

CPU: Intel Pentium 2 @ 300 MHz 512 L2 Cache
MB: Elpina M720 v1.3 With 2xIntel Pentium 2 Up to 533 MHz Support Using ACPI Module - Which I Don't have and cannot find anywhere in the world to buy used one - cuz there's no new Smiley
Memory: PQI 2x64 PC-133 SD-RAM - Max 4x128Mb Possible On The Motherboard = 512Mb MAX Memory
Ethernet: 3xRealtek RTL8139C/D+ Chipsets 10/100 Mbps
Wi-Fi: LevelOne WNC-0300 v3 a/b/g 108+ - Atheros 5001X+ Chipset - Supports WEP/WPA/WPA2 (PSK/TKIP, PSK/AES-CCMP)

U can use D-Link DWL-G520 Card Which is Based on Atheros Chipset i think it's the same as the LevelOne that im using
I hope this helps.

P.S. Forgot im using m0n0wall 1.3b15 and no problems so far, thanks for the awesome router/firewall OS guys works great. Keep the awesome work.

Linksys WMP11

I installed one of these cards last weekend into my m0n0wall box. Running as an access point interface. Runs very well.

Any other Prism2.5 card should be just as good.

Currently using m0n0wall version 1.3b18

Hope this helps.

Netgear WPN311 PCI
- 108 mbps
- WEP/WPA/WPA2 (PSK/TKIP, PSK/AES-CCMP)

Working flawlessly in a build I did for a friend using 1.3. Great reception with a D-Link 7dBi antenna, too.

- Fanless Celeron 366 on μATX mobo, no video
- 128MB PC100, 32MB CF-to-IDE
- 3 x Realtek RTL8139 PCI

I just installed a (regular PCI) Atheros based 108Mbps Super G card in my M0n0wall box (Pentium 3).  It's an Airlink101, model number AWLH4030.  I have not tested it out yet, but M0n0wall 1.32 recognizes it just fine in the console and WebGUI. It's setup as an Optional network.
