Hi.
Sorry, I know there is already documentation about this, but in my case, I want to hear it straight once and for all about my particular situation.

When I go to the firmware update page in my m0n0wall, it says that I should upload "generic-pc-*.img".

However, I'm running this on a VM within VMware's ESX Server, and on the website, it says that I should use "generic-pc-vm".

So, which one should I really be doing here?

Thanks

In search for the same "issue" I wonder there is no FAQ entry about this and no answer here... sadly.. Cry

Use generic-pc. The vm zip files contain vm disk images. Using these is like swapping out a hard disk.  Though both will work, one is done vi the web gui of monowall, the other through vmware changes and tools.

I would guess using the vmware image will cause you to lose your config too.

Normally for vmware I make my own machine and then use the iso to install and then do generic-pc upgrades
