I dropped 30 bucks on an smc2802w after reading this article...

http://www.enterprisenetworkingplanet.com/nethub/article.php/3463611

And naturally I just installed monowall on an old computer in the hopes of making a firewall/wireless access point, and like most open source software it only supports hardware that has been out since the year following the discovery of the transistor.

Either the lady in that article is full of crap, or the drivers included with monowall are as tiny as a g-string made of 5lb fishing line.

Can anyone give me any insight on getting my smc2802w working on monowall, or can just write off open source software forever and realize that only people who get paid create anything of any real quality?

Please forgive me.  I know I sound like an ass, and I have no right to complain about free software, but I just gave in to a project where I was trying to build a Mythtv setup on Ubuntu.  If you want to know what going insane feels like try finding a TV tuner, and remote control that work well with Linux, and then enjoy spending 60 hours becoming a programmer trying to get them to work.  Windows 7 was the best purchase I have ever made on that computer.  Media Center rocks and ole' Bill knows how to just make shit work.

Open source is dead if this is the best thats out there.  Seriously the only wireless cards supported are wireless b?  g has only been out for what, 5-6 years now?

I bet you just got all those 2800 baud modem drivers included.  I need to firewall my dial up!
