My wireless Compaq WL110 PCMCIA card -- status: no carrier.

I have a Soekris net4511 (m0n0wall version 1.236) with Compaq Wireless WL110 PCMCIA card for wireless. The PCMCIA card is on the m0n0wall approved list.  As instructed by SteveEast I assigned it to an interface (wi0 > Opt1).  I tested the PCMCIA card in my laptop and it works.

I even resorted to reading the Handbook, but have been unable to figure out what I am not doing.  While I have created a PASS Firewall rule for Opt1 I am not sure if it is configured correctly.

I guess my humility is being tested.

Any help will be appreciated.

I enclose the boot log below.  The Interface status as provided in "status.php" reports the following:

Having assigned the wireless card to an interface, have you then clicked on OPT1 in the list under "Interfaces" and configured it?

Steve.

Yes.

Description: Opt1
Bridge with: LAN
Mode: Hostap
SSID: P2I
Channel: AUTO
WEP:  not enabled

By the way, I was messing with configuration and was able to change "no carrier" to associated.  However, this change did not seem to result in a wireless signal.

After much searching and help, it seems the problem resides with the wireless card and my lack of understanding.  The Soekris net4511 unit (16meg ram and m0n0wall version 1.2) was purchased used and included a Cisco Aironet 350 wireless card.    At first I could not achieve wireless connectivity through the Cisco Soekris combination and decided to replace the Cisco card with a Compaq WL110 PCMCIA card  that supported "hostap".  Even though the card worked in my laptop it would not work as the Soekris wireless card (in spite of being on the m0n0wall okay list).  After an exchange of emails with SoCalFreeNet's Michael Mee, I learned that the Aironet card should work.  According to Mr. Mee, SoCalFreeNet had great success with Cisco 350 APs and that they were super reliable and work with everything.  So, I reinstalled the Cisco Aironet 350 card configured as IBSS together with all the other configuration requirements set forth in the m0n0wall manual and now everything works.  So problem solved.
