I have a puzzler on my hands that I would really like to fix sometime today.  If anyone can lend some insight into this issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a monowall router at our corporate location with a LAN network address of 192.168.0.0/24.  At our branch location, we are using a dd-wrt router with a LAN network address of 192.168.1.0/24 connecting to the monowall via a PPTP connection and being assigned an address of 192.168.200.16.

So, the branch location is able to "see" the corporate location, but the corporate location is having issues "seeing" the branch location.  I added a static route to the monowall router that forwards packets destined to the 192.168.1.0/24 network out a gateway of 192.168.200.16.

Now, comes the puzzler.  This actually worked....for a day.  After that, it no longer worked.  Last night, I deleted the static route, rebooted the monowall and added the static route back in.  It worked again....for a couple of minutes.  So, I'm a bit confused as to what is going on here.  Why can we not consistently "see" the branch location from the corporate location?

If any further information is required, please let me know.  I am anxious to get this resolved today.

Thanks.

the simplest solution (the KISS principle) is to replace the dd-wrt router with another m0n0wall and setup an IPSec tunnel between the two m0n0walls.
