What type of VPN? If you use PPTP, the client built into Windows 2000, XP, and Vista will work fine.

For IPsec, last I looked there weren't any really good free options. You might find something searching the list archives, or maybe someone here knows of something.

The best IPSEC client I have found is SSH Sentinel.  There is a free variant of it, but it is hard to track down.

i'm trying to get ssh sentinel 1.3.2 (a free version, it seems) working under windows xp2 and have had no luck.

does anyone have a working config? ipsecuritas (latest) on os x is working fine for ipsec connections. i just need to get a reliable connection with windows now.

any hints? thanks.

Hi

i use The Green Bow VPN Client http://www.thegreenbow.com/ i have found this to be VERY good and does what i want.

Hope this helps, i have also done a screen cast on setting it up which you can find on the screen cast page on the m0n0wall homepage

Many Thanks

no matter which client i've tried -- tauvpn, shrewsoft, greenbow, ssh sentinel (old), or others (forget which) -- none of the windows client configs have worked to connect to a relatively default ipsec tunnel config on a net4801 running m0n0 1.3b9.

i followed the screencast, but that's an older version of greenbow and m0n0wall.

the basic setup on the m0n0 box is:

nat-t: enabled

phase1
negotiation mode: aggressive
identifier: ip
encryption: 3des
hash: sha1
dh group: 2
lifetime: 28800

auth method: preshared key

phase2
protocol: esp
encryption: 3des, blowfish, cast128, aes
hash: sha1, md5
pfs group: 2
lifetime: 28800

preshared key identifier: fqdn

ipsecuritas works fine with this config, but i haven't found the right settings to get a windows client to work at all.

any ideas?
