when i try to upgrade m0n0wall, while having very high memory usage (almost 99%)
the web interface will not respond anymore, and the console even though i can type numbers and choose stuff i keep jumping back into the menu.

so you end up with a router that routes\nats\pats but doesn't have a working interface until you hard reboot it.

How much RAM do you have? I have found here that firmware updates will fail with only 64MB of RAM.

i have had this with multiple versions of monowall

this monowall is running as a vm on my esx box
and normally 64mb of ram is enough
but not when i have my torrent client with dht enabled running

but still it shouldn't kill the web interface or the console
it should just fail with some kind of "out of disk space" error message

Have a look here, it appears that for some, 64MB is not enough to upgrade, most likely because the image has grown slightly over time.

We should add a memory check so that you don't end up with a broken router when trying to upgrade, though it would be better if the upgrade just succeeded even with low memory.

you could backup your config and reinstall with the newer version, then restore your config.

well, as php is in a 'broken' state, some actions may not work as expected, such as a wan disconnect/reconnect/re-ip , if this was to happen, you would be 'very broken'
