I am about to buy a Soekris 5501-60, guess the 5501-70 is way to much for m0n0wall.

but what image should i use? the wrap and 4801 are having spec. 486 kernels right ?
and the genric PC image das not support serial redirect, because no keyboard, no vga on the 5501.

Any idea ?

this has already been discussed if you search for 'Soekris 5501' here and in the list archives. Use generic PC.

But generic PC have to have a VGAcard, keyboardcontroller right?

the 5501 does not have this and needs a consolredirect to the serialport as it does on the wrap and the older soekris.

Anyway i'm going to take a Jetwayboard with 3 Realtec's and the Onboard Via nic.
They support devicepolling.
Set CPU speed to 600mhz and will be still faster than the soekris and lower power as well !
And we cheaper

The only tuff part is, to find 128MB DDR2 533 Ram.

No.

The serial console on the Soekris boards isn't like the one on the WRAP board, it doesn't require any changes to run display on serial. A (very) few people run the generic PC image on 4801's. Assuming the 5501 is no different from that perspective, it'll work fine.
