If "Use device polling" is active before or activated after upgrade to 1.33 version, then mono is not reachable via LAN/WAN ports anymore! This is happened with new realtek driver to me (re->rg)
This bug is always reproducible on my NICs
my hardware is http://www.mitxpc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=MBJ7F4K1G5S
Dual Realtek RTL8110SC 10/100/1000 PCI LAN PHY
To reproduce this bug:
1. Find some peace of hardware that will use realtek driver
2. Install/boot m0n0 1.33
3. After minimal configuration go to System -> Advanced -> put "Use device polling"
4. SAVE
5. Reboot
6. Try to ping or go to your router web interface
To get it working again - reset to factory defaults in console

I have tried pfsense also, enabled there device polling and after 48 hours it is died, I have marked that pf is extremely slow when device polling enabled, so i think the problem is realtek hardware itself or drivers newer then was included into 1.32

A. Never use device polling.
B. Never use Realtek anything.

Problem Solved!   Smiley

Yep. But device polling is ok and working good in version 1.32
And I can't say anything bad about gigabit realtek chips, at least in my network  they are working good (except new m0n0 release with polling enabled)

Solution is known - disable device polling if you've enabled it before. That's all.

if you need to enable device polling, it's time to upgrade to faster hardware.

Absolutely not! I just want to run my box cool and quiet, not hot and noisy. So at maximum load, 100mbit, without device polling CPU is going up to 70C at summer time and with polling enabled rarely over 50C. This is a huge difference for free and I don't need to buy a new cooler  Tongue

Absolutely yes, agreed about the device polling, if You need to enable device polling under average usage load [it's a relative variable connected with specific scenario] then You definitely need better hardware for better network performance.

However I do have a question: What's wrong with Realtek?
Any bad experiences with that particular chipset?

I've described in my previous post (I forgot to write that CPU load never going over 75% also), why I need device polling and don't need new hardware. I have NO hardware bottlenecks, except it is going hot in known conditions and I want to run it quiet without any modding, so I choose to reduce my CPU load from 70% to 40% (at full network bandwidth with traffic shaper enabled).
New hardware probably can be the solution if it has passive coolng that is working much better, but no other way.
