Hello,

I am running ver 1.33 on HP Compaq 500B. This PC has one integrated Realtek NIC, one PCI slot and two PCI Express slots. I bought two NIC of Intel: Intel Pro/1000 (PCI slot) and Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter (PCI Express slot). Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter is not discovered by monowall.

Can I add driver of Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter to monowall? How? I red on Intel's site that "Linux Base Driver for the IntelĀ® PCI-E gigabit adapters/connections. This driver is intended for 2.4.18 through 2.6.x kernels." is available.

or

Can anyone recommend any NICs on the PCI Express slot?

Please help!

Your most straight forward approach, IMHO, would be to look for a supported multi-port NIC. These can be found on ebay for very reasonable prices.

I am not saying this one will work with m0n0wall, you'll have to research this for yourself, but it's typical of what's out there and if supported, would solve your problem nicely, and then some.

Good luck.

Thank for reply,

m0n0wall 1.3x is based on FreeBSD 6. There is site with supported NICs by freebsd 6.0:

http://www.freebsd.org/releases/6.0R/hardware-i386.html#ETHERNET

The em(4) driver supports Gigabit Ethernet adapters based on the Intel 82540, 82541ER, 82541PI, 82542, 82543, 82544, 82545, 82546, 82546EB, 82546GB, 82547 and 82573 controller chips:

Intel PRO/1000 CT Network Connection (82547)

I found problem: Intel PRO/1000 CT Network Connection (82547) is not the same as Intel Gigabit CT Desktop Adapter (82574L) and it not supported by freebsd 6.x, only 8.2 (core of m0n0wall 1.8.x).

By the way, when new ver. 1.8.x of m0n0 will be released?

m0n0wall 1.8 is in development. You can begin evaluating the beta releases anytime you want to. See: http://m0n0.ch/wall/beta.php

I would just run the beta in that case, you can hack in a kernel module which when loaded should override the em(4) in-kernel, but that's bound to be a pain. There haven't been a large number of changes aside from the base OS in the beta so it should be stable.
