Topic: 1 gbit card between land and dmz (speed not over 100 mbit)  (Read 1493 times)

m0n0wall shows that I have on the lan and dmz port 1000 gbit, but copying from lan to dmz is not faster (10 mbyte a seccond). Any ideas how to have more speed on the lan->dmz?

P.S: As network card I use intel 4nic (should be a e1000) card.

There is always a bottleneck somewhere. The challenge is identifying it.

What are the CPU loads on the machines and router during transfers?

How fast can your hard disks write data? This is always slower than read speed, sometimes a lot slower.

Less likely a problem is machine bus speed.

Least likely would be Intel NICs.

I can copy from DMZ1 machine to DMZ2 machine about 60 MByte a second, the processor on the m0n0wall box is a 64 bit sempron 140, so no problem on nics.

System usage during on m0n0wall box is about 8 % during copy process, but never goes above 100 mbit, I have the impression that the firewall has 100 mbit and not 1000 mbit, but under Status & interfaces it does show 1000 mbit.

I am a bit confused here. You say you can copy from DMZ1 machine to DMZ2 machine about 60 MByte a second.

Are these machines connected by a switch or are they connected to two different interfaces on the mon0wall?

If they are connected by a switch, then m0n0wall is not involved with the transfer so the m0n0wall CPU load is not relevant.

Also, in your m0n0wall, do you have four separate NICs or one four port NIC?

I have a new m0n0wall with three interfaces lan, wan and dmz. Inside the lan I have a switch and inside the dmz I have a switch. I just putted the new firewall inside and I did not switch off the switches. After I turned the switches off an on, I got the 1000 mbit. I assume the switch did not change from 100 to 1000 mbit. Sorry for asking here.
