I know this topic has been brought up before, but a decent routing platform on an off-the-shelf ARM-powered device is starting to look more realistic with devices like the Sheevaplug variants with two NICs and this: http://utilite-computer.com/web/home

Is the support 'there' for such devices from FreeBSD yet?

Considering that ARM devices have a lot of hardware variance, and FreeBSD only supports it Tier2, http://www.freebsd.org/platforms/arm.html I would say the answer ain't changing fast.  That said, the instructions for building are open, and you could try porting m0n0wall and building an image.
