I am trying to install the embedded 1.34 image on a Nokia IP130 with a CF card.  When I connect to the serial port on the Nokia and power up the device, all I see on the terminal screen is several lines of garbage.  However, if I install the generic PC image on the Nokia I see, for the same serial port configuration (9600-8N1), clear legible text as the Nokia boots up.  Does anyone know why the embedded image would provide garbage over the serial connection but the generic PC image does not for the same serial port configuration?  I tried changing the serial port configuration to other parameters but nothing I tried helped.

Is there a disadvantage on using the generic PC image instead of the embedded image on the Nokia?  Does the generic PC image write to the CF card but the embedded image does not?

Any input would be appreciated.

You should be using the generic-PC images.

some hardware redirects console to serial, for that type you use generic-pc ,   other hardware just has a serial port and doesn't redirect console, for that type you use the serial image.
