Topic: Can I use 1.8x now? (Home firewall)  (Read 1626 times)

My question is simple (hopefully). I use m0n0wall 1.34 on a PCEngines WRAP as my home firewall. It is configured for DHCP/DNS, infrequent VPN usage (1 client), NAT to a couple of linux boxes and not much else.

Would it be safe to upgrade to 1.8x? (Meaning: do the basics work so I don't have to worry too much about this being a dev version?)

Thx

Alan

1.8.x is very mature. It receives the same attention to security related bugs as does 1.34.

The more important question is does your WRAP board meet the hardware requirements to run 1.8.x?

Fred,

Thanks for the reply, I realized after I posted that I had actually upgraded a couple of years ago to a PCEngines Alix with 256MB of memory. (Easy to forget these things when it just works and continues to do so).

Will it be sufficient for 1.8x?

Rgds,

Alan

You're good to go. I run m0n0wall 1.8.1 on my ALIX 2C3 256MB board.

I have 1.8b in production at several sites now.  It seems very stable.  But if not, let us know!
