Hi all

I´m searching for a small board on which I can run m0n0.
My special need is: as much cost effective as possible !!
I don´t need a case. Becaus a good friend of me is manufaturer of plastics and he´ll build me one.

What do I need ?

- 2 or more LAN
- 1 WAN (are there boards with onboard adsl modem ?)
- 1 USB
- WLAN
(I´m totaly indisposed of COM Ports !!!)

Btw. I don´t expect a personal consultation...!
It´ll only be nice if someone who is firm in these things will tell me something
and give me some examples.

Thanks for reading.

Kind regards

Hi

Thanks for your reply.
I´ve already seen that. But I mean boards in a lower price category.
At Soekris or someone else I pay more than 200 or 300$.
Thats not my target!

Aren´t there some little boards with jsut enough power ?

Btw. what are the average requirments for cpu and ram ??

Thanks allot.

#edit: Soekris boards have USB. depending on how they have one or two USB1.1/2.0 ports.

The WRAP and Soekris boards are the cheapest "little boards with just enough power".

CPU and RAM requirements will vary depending on what features you want to run and how much throughput you require.

I´ve thought that by my self...
But then tell me how does the big Companies like LanCom, AVM, ... do that ?
I can´t imagine that their prices are only so low because of the amount their productions.

All the hardware you see that's cheaper than that isn't x86-based, and hence isn't supported.

Hi

Thanks for your replies...

I´m no specialist in these things, but I think I´m right with the assumption that other architectures are respecting kernel modifying!

And which architectures are used in this little Boxes ?

I hope somebody can tell me something about that.

It's also worth noting that most of the products featured on the hardware page http://m0n0.ch/wall/hardware.php are either discontinued or out of stock.  I don't expect the Monowall webmasters to continually check on this.

May I suggest a sticky topic at the top of the hardware forum of current hardware.  The list can be updated and maintained by users.

The really cheap hardware tends to be MIPS-based. It requires an OS that fully supports MIPS, which FreeBSD does not. You would have to build your own m0n0wall-like system using NetBSD or Linux to use such hardware, which is a daunting task.
