I have not been able to write 'generic-pc-1.8.1' to my 60GB SSD. Everything is fine to:
Proceed? <y/n>. After " y enter " I receive the following message:

Failed to open \\. \PhysicalDrive2 - existing.

Can someone help? What do I need to do? Create a 32GB partition on the disk? do I format
the disk FAT32?

What tool are you useing to write?  What OS are you on?  Do you have admin rights?

I sign into cmd with Admin authorization; Clean disk with diskpart. physdiskwrite
-u generic-pc-1.8.1 , get thru the disks, select disk, get passed the warning with "Y".
Then I get the message "Failed to open\\. \PhysicalDrive2 - existing".

I think I have figured it out; I need to add .img to the end of the downloaded file. I will give that a try. Thanks.

Generic Version 1.8.1 does not install period. Tried version 1.34a; that worked and I got to boot it. However at the end: "cannot load root mount ( or something like it )- XML Config File cannot be found. Looked for it and m0n0 site directs me to a download, however it is nowhere to be found.
I suppose, if I had the file, the program would find it on a USB stick?

You are running into some kind of disk/controller incompatibility.

As I am sure you already know, using a disk that is 2,000 times the size required is something we don't see a lot of around here.

That is a point.  Many older systems will not see a flash drive larger than 2 gig.
