Hi,
I see relatively large dhcp.leases files in /var/db (nearly 100kb) in several heavy used monowall's. Looking into the lease file I discover about 40% of the entries where the end date is already in the past.

Example: Total 350 DHCP leases, where 150 Entries have a end date in the past.
Running 1.8.1
DHCP min lease time is set at 1hour, max lease time is set to 4h for the relevant Captive Portal interface.
I guess this behavior is not normal. Correct?

Q: how long are the outdated DHCP leases stored in the lease file?

The reason I bring this up is I had two boxes where the memory usage grew up to 90% and had to be restarted. After the restart the memory usage was back around 10%.
Thanks you in advance for your time
Jakob

The only time I have seen this is when you have broken hardware on the LAN continually asking for DHCP addresses...  Check the logs to see if you have a bad actor.

Lee,
thank you. This happens on the Guest Interface, where all the users are on WLAN.
I see in the DHCP log (via Web interface 150 clients)
If download the "dhcpd.leases" i see 600 entries. Some clients have 3 entries and some entries have a end date which is in the past. (i.E 4 Feb 2015 and the actual date is 11.Feb 2015.

Look for a flaky AP.  It has caused this for me in the past.  Just connect to each one and see if it randomly drops you.  If so, isable it and see if the problem goes away.

This is usually the symptom of a bigger problem.
