Hi,

I am trying to get the above mentioned NIC to work on an Intel based Mainboard (Asus P4P800-VM), but it will not show up under valid interfaces. It doesn't matter which version of m0n0wall I use.

Is there an incompatibility between Intel based network cards and intel based Mainboards under m0n0wall/Freebsd?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

The current stable of monowall is based on FreeBSD 4. Assuming that you are running this version, Check the Hardware compatibility list for FreeBSD 4 http://www.freebsd.org/releases/4.11R/hardware-i386.html The 1.4 beta stream of Monowall is based on FreeBSD 6 so you might try this.

I already tried both. 1.23 and 1.3b2 but none of them worked  Sad

http://www.freebsd.org/releases/6.2R/hardware-i386.html#ETHERNET Lists the Intel Pro/1000 GT as supported in FreeBSD 6.2, so I am not sure why it isn't seeing it.  I did see a post the other day where someone was having problems with a NIC and it turned out that there was an IRQ conflict with the Video card.  Have you tried tweaking the BIOS settings?

Yeah I tried to update the bios and find the optimal settings.

But now it seems that the PCI-Bus on my mainboard is faulty. No PCI-Device is recognized ...  Undecided

I can vouch for the 1000 GT as I have seen it recognised and running in 1.22, 1.3b1 and 1.3b2.

I too am using intel pro 1000 with m0n0wall stable 1.231 without a problem. Great cards in general.

I just picked up a pair of these cards and was pleasantly surprised to see them supported in version 1.231 (I was expecting to have to use the beta).

The exact card model is PWLA8391GT.

dmesg output for the really curious:
Code:
em0: <Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection, Version - 1.7.42> port 0x9800-0x983f mem 0xec000000-0xec01ffff,0xec800000-0xec81ffff irq 11 at device 13.0 on pci0
em0:  Speed:N/A  Duplex:N/A
em1: <Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection, Version - 1.7.42> port 0x9400-0x943f mem 0xeb000000-0xeb01ffff,0xeb800000-0xeb81ffff irq 10 at device 14.0 on pci0
em1:  Speed:N/A  Duplex:N/A

I did have a problem with the second one not showing up while in the 3rd pci slot, i had to move it to slot 2 before it showed both cards.
