I suspect I'm not the only one that would really benefit from a modified soekris or generic-pc image that preassigns LAN and WAN to vr interfaces.

I live in a small and somewhat isolated town and I'm having a hard time finding a null modem cable, let alone a computer with a serial port to connect to my just-arrived soekris net5501 board.

A mono image with default vr0, vr1 configuration would allay the need for the serial console and allow me to connect via the LAN, I expect.

I'd like to second this. Getting a remote user to get a serial cable to work is a nightmare!

The 1.3b15 embedded image (which should work fine on net5501 boards) contains code to automatically change sisX to vrX when it boots for the first time and no sisX interfaces are found.
