Captive Portal

Hello folk.

 I have Hard Timeout set on the captive portal - 10 minutes.

Portal page comes up nicely when a simple http:// URL.

It does NOT fire ( no password, no access) if the page is :-
  https://...
  http://www.mydomain.com:2095  (Any port - this one is for a Webmail page)
  Anything else, like starting a Skype session.

  ( It fires okay on a POST (like when you hit preview here),
   but info is not posted after password entered ).
 
I have to keep remembering to open a normal http:// page first to trigger the portal page.
 With Firefox, I keep another tab open to Google, hit refresh there, enter password if necessary, then switch to the other page and click wherever . . . quite a pain.

Any ideas ?
