There is an option to restart m0n0wall, but not shut it down.

I'm using m0n0wall in a test lab to model network conditions.  I don't need it running all the time.  It would be nice not to have to time holding down the off button on the m0n0wall PC for the point where the reset has restarted the PC.

Or is it safe to just switch it off?  I don't think so - the reset does some hard disk tidying I think.

Tell it to restart then when you see your pc's manufactures logo turn it off, i do. I would really like to see shutdown as an option.

No, restarting does not do anything to the disk. m0n0wall runs entirely from RAM. Just pull the plug.
