I purchased a Watchguard Firebox II (1200HW) off of eBay a while ago.

I'm trying to install m0n0wall on it, like the link in the tools/resources section of the main site (which is what inspired me to do so).

Well, I have everything I need. Got a PS/2 keyboard adapter, 44 pin to CF, PCI Video card, etc.

I'm trying to get video, but no dice. I tried both PCI slots, can't get anything. I tried a network card in there and it did light up. So I'm not sure what's going on. I thought maybe it was the ATI cards for some reason weren't working with it. So I bought a cheap S3 PCI video card like the person in the link used, and it did not work.

Any ideas? Anyone with a working firebox2/m0n0wall setup care to share their jumper settings?

Thanks.

I had the same issue and could not find a solution, tried it on 2 Firebox II's with no luck. Maybe a newer Watchguard firmware removed the possibility??

I guess that's a possibility, the firebox II I have has a different logo on the front of it then this one. Mine has the rectangle around the Guard, what about yours?
The board is arranged differently also, the ethernet is not Intel, it's Digital.

So much for using the Firebox II, should be a disclaimer of some sort that they all don't work.

Does it specificially say Firebox II? It may be a firebox 1. Or a different model number?

Yes, it says Firebox II on the back, I'm talking about the logo on the front, there's two different ones. I'm not sure which one is newer. They are the same model though, 1200HW.

Never done it myself, but I recall similar posts to the mailing list in the past. May find something useful browsing through this.

Just a Note, I threw Monowall on a Firebox X 1000 and all 5 ports come up and is running sweet!

I have a 1400HW (Firebox II Plus) which I'm planning to run m0n0wall on.

I was able to get the video working without any problem, likewise the keyboard.

The only thing I'm waiting for now is an IDE44 adapter to allow me to plug a CF card in. I'll let you know how it all goes.

regards
sam

I had a Firebox 2 at one point about a year ago just for giggles.  I saw the guide online too and promptly dropped a video card in....at the time I believe it was an older matrox 8mb or 16mb card...MGA 64 or something....Millenium...i forget...it was nothing too special though.  I had no problems getting video.

I hate to say it, but if you got your Firebox on ebay, there's a decent chance it's damaged.  Check the user reviews of your seller.

Good luck.

Another thing to check... you may need to clear the BIOS. There should be a couple of pins near the CMOS battery that you can short. On the FB100 units which I'm most familiar with, they didn't even put in pins. I had to short out the solder pads with a screwdriver. You'll have to look closely, but they should be labled "BIOS" or "CMOS CLR" or "BATT" or something similar. Good luck!!!

One thing also-- I got this working on some of the older Firebox II's -- the PCI ports are 'backwards' -- e.g. the video port on the vid card had to face the FRONT of the firebox.  Make sure you didn't put the vid card in backwards.
