I have been trying to install monwall for the first time via CD/jump drive on my Dell.  It loads to the monwall set up screen just fine but the problem is that I want to install it on another dell.  When I try it on the other Dell it stops while loading and says:

IP Filter: v3.4.35 initialized. Default=block all, Logging=enabled
ata3-slave: ATAPI indentify retries exceeded

So I know the CD is fine (I had issues with buring the .iso file to the CD at the wrong rate before).  Could it be a setting needs to be disabled in BIOS?

Monowall version: cdrom-1.231.iso

ata3 should be some IDE device on your system that it's unhappy with. Try unplugging whatever IDE devices you have (other than the CD-ROM) and see if it goes away.

I unplugged the hard drive which was the only other IDE device that was attached and the same error still came up.  I looked in the BIOS and it showed that SATA-3 did not have a port present.  Could it possibly be a motherboard issue?

My the problem computer is a Dell Vostro 200 and the old Dell that it works on is a Dell Dimension 2400.  I have also tried to run it on my new Dell Latitude D830 laptop and it doesn't work either.  Could it be that some of the newer Dell's designs have an issue with Monowall?

Normally I would just use an old computer but I don't have that luxury since this is for work.

I ended up just using another computer in the office.  It seems that Dell's more than 2 years old work fine but the new models (vostro) seem to have a conflict with the IDE.

Oh, yeah m0n0wall 1.2 and SATA don't play well together. It uses an old OS release with very poor hardware support for newer boxes like that, to the extent that some of them won't work at all even if you aren't trying to use that particular piece of hardware.
