Hi,

First of all, my hardware as router is a P3 866mhz 256mb cf 128mo with 3 intel nic, a Netgear 10/100 5 ports and a D-link DI-524 router set as AP. And this is my Network configuration

My network is basicly configured like this
WWW ---- Modem ---- m0n0wall----- switch-----------PCs
                                                             |-------------- DI-524 AP )))     ((( Laptop

IP Configuration
Monowall : 192.168.0.1/24
Switch : unmangable
DI-524 : 192.168.0.2/24
DHCP : 192.168.0.100 to .199

DI524 Configuration :
Plugged in the lan port
DHCP Disabled
WEP 128Bits (I know but I have an Nintendo DS and it does not support anything else than WEP)

Now my problem, it's a problem with the wifi connection not the connection itself but I'm not able to reach the monowall and access to the internet but all my network ressources work fine (ex : shared folders, itunes sharing etc ...)

At first all went well the first 30 min of surfing with my laptop. After that I began to digg to find the problem.
The wireless connection is still open and all my ipconfig look good

Laptop Ipconfig :
IP : 192.168.0.199/24
Gateway : 192.168.0.1
DNS : adress from my ISP

What I've done :

- Search on the laptop for a possible problem with the wireless, so I installed a fresh install of winxp sp2 will all updates and it still do the same problem

- I tried to unplug the di524 for 30 sec and replug, no change

- I tried to ping my Monowall on my laptop all packet loss

- I tried on my PC (wired) all is fine (access to monowall internet etc.)

So I began to think it was monowall.

- I search in monowall for something I overlook or forgot in the initial setup. Nothing abnormal

- I look back at the doc and read about DHCP default lease time so I changed it to one weak, no change

- I changed the range of my dhcp server to .100 to .150 and made an release/renew of my laptop ip and then the internet was back and I was able to ping monowall again and access it.

Again about 30 min later I lost internet.

- I unplugged my wife pc and put my usb wireless card to tried if it wasn't just a problem with my laptop

- I got back internet for an other half hour or so on the two wireless pcs and then the same problem came back.

What I haven't tried

- Changed the DI524 for a true AP but I don't have the money for that at the moment and if its only a monowall config I wont need an AP and a router when the router do the job.

- Tried a beta of Monowall.

Why I changed my Dlink for Mono ? When the DLINK have too much bandwidth passing throught it crash. And I need to expend my network knowledged for my job. My wife doesnt like when keep her away from the laptop but HEY its for a greater good ! Smiley

For what it's worth - I've given up on D-Link routers.  I've had way to many intermittent/dead ones.

do you think if I buy a new AP it will resolve my problem ?

I may tried to connect it by the wan port and see if I have the same problem after 30 min

After the morning in router mode I still got the internet on my wireless connection. I will try to borrow a router or an AP from my job.

@CS :

I know it may be the DLINK and I banned from my list some router compagny for alway having problem like DLINK LINKSYS Belkin USRobotics. At the moment there is 3 compagnies that I havent got problem with or very few its Trendnet (unexprensive but with few option of config but more than USR) ASUS (the interface is quite messy but working fine) buffalo ( one of the most complete router that I seen)

but like I said before I dont have money to buy a real AP and network share are mostly to my wife so explaining how to go on a share by tapping the address of the host bla bla bla will be like speaking in chinese.

Well it's done.

I tried all morning a router Asus WL-520GU as AP and all work well.
ChainSaw you were right.

Thank for the lead.
