General Questions

is there the capability of this right now in monowall? i dont really want to do a time based rule, but it went down on a friday and a client couldn't receive anything until monday when we could get in there to reboot it. i need to avoid this situation.

i would like to either:
a) force a reboot once a night at 3am
b) have it ping our gateway, and if it doesnt find the gateway, then make it reboot.

option b is obviously prefered, but A would work for now.

i understand we could use a electronic timer for a plug to make it turn on and off once a night, but i would like something more elegant can controllable.

If your m0n0wall periodaclly locks up, you more than likely have a hardware or power problem.  Also, if you are not already running 1.3b11, I would give it a try.  I'm running it on 30+ production boxes and have had zero problems so far.

i am running 1.3b9 because if the chipset on the board i have. ill upgrade it.

it has only locked up once since i installed it 3 weeks ago, but these clients... they are how to say it nicely... "a pain in my rear". hopefully it doesnt happen again.

beside the point though, wouldnt it be nice to auto reboot if it doesnt get a reply from the gateway? ill ask that in the features wanted section.

You might want to consider switching to embedded hardware.  Most all of my commercial m0n0walls are either Net4801 or now the newer Net5501 and I have never had a Soekris box fail or lock-up on me.  They aren't real cheap but I have found them to be very reliable.
