Hello all:

I'm looking for advice on how to solve a packet loss problem I'm having.

After booting monowall I can ping any reliable host on the internet from the LAN side and get 0% packet loss. Gradually, however, packet loss creeps in. After about 1 day I start seeing 10% or more packet loss when I ping the same hosts as before from the LAN side. If I connect directly to my cable modem (which is in bridge mode) I can ping with no packet loss. Rebooting monowall fixes the problem.

If I remember correctly I can also physically disconnect the WAN side cable then reconnect it to fix the problem.

Details: monowall 1.233 is acting as the gateway for my LAN (100+ devices). It connects to an SMC cable modem that is in bridge mode. It's got about 12 NAT entries to 5 different systems and PPTP turned on. It's also doing traffic shaping (the problem exists even when I turn this feature off). Not enabled: DHCP, Dynamic DNS, DNS forwarder, SNMP, Proxy ARP, Captive Portal, WOL.

Oh, and I also replaced the CAT5e cabling with shiny new CAT6 cables just rule out line issues.

Does anyone have any suggestions? What other information can I post that would help shed light on this?

-Tim
