Hi there

I have a small network (2 XP PCs and 2 Vista PCs) attached to a m0n0wall.

m0n0wall serves dynamically IP adresses (DHCP enabled)

What are the correct network settings on the PCs in order to resolve computer names. For example I'd like to map a shared folder using \\IDEFIX\SHARED_DRIVE...

Before I had a dedicated DHCP & WINS service in the network and all was working like a charm... Since I use DHCP from m0n0wall it does not work anymore...

Any idea?

Thx,
Peter

Use the DNS forwarder, call the machines anything you want but the IP obviously needs to match.

So if under "general setup" my domain is set to "LOCAL"... Do I resolve a windows PC called IDEFIX with "\\IDEFIX.LOCAL\..." ?

In the LAN settings on the windows PCs I have various option under the WINS/NetBIOS tab:

- Default/Standard
- Enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP
- Disable NetBIOS over TCP/IP

What would be the correct setting there?

Thx
