Sorry, guys. I found the solution 20 secs after my post at http://forum.m0n0.ch/index.php/topic,1942.0.html. I overlooked the solution I got from the forum search, before I initially wrote the post. Won't happen again  Embarrassed

Hi,

I've recently aquired a Soekris Net-5501. Can't wait for it to be the router/firewall in my network.  Smiley But I've come across some problems that maybe some of the forum users might help me with.

Ok, here we go:

First of all I have tried with 3 different CF Card manufacturers and none of them are branded SanDisk that Soekris recommends. But for each of the CF cards I get the same result.

*Memorex (64MB)
*Apacer (64MB)
*Lexar (4GB)

I have written the image generic-pc-1.234.img downloaded from M0n0walls webpage to the CF card, then inserted it into the 5501. Opened Putty/HyperTerminal and connected to the 5501 (with a NULL MODEM cable) and connected the power to the box.

Then I can see it starts with counting memory etc. I can press CTRL-P and see and alter environment variables.

I get the following Post:  012345689bcefghips1234ajklnopqr,,,tvwxy

But when it starts booting the image I get something like this every time:

> boot
Console: internal video/keyboard
BIOS drive C: is disk0
BIOS 639kB/523264kB available memory

FreeBSD/i386 bootstrap loader, Revision 0.8

... these hard to read lines goes on and on...

I also have the 5501 directly connected to my pc with a sthraigt through network cable since the router is Auto-MDIX. The pc does not get any ip address (tried ipconfig /release and /renew). I set the ipadress of my pc to static (192.168.1.12) and tried to access the router on 192.168.1.1 (via web). That did't work either.

I'm waiting for a image specifically tailored for 5501, but in the mean time I understand that I have to use the pc generic image.

Is it just because I don't use a Sandisk CF card or is there another solution?

Regards,

Bjørn,
Norway
