Just found m0n0wall and it looks very attractive :-)   I currently use freesco - it does everything I need but frankly it is now creaking a bit and the lack of wireless and USB support is becoming an issue.

However, I may have missed something in the m0n0wall specs, but is there support for a printer server in the package?

The network here is small (<8 nodes) and I need to make a low cost inkjet printer available to all windows and linux clients and I do not want yet another machine running to provide this support.  Is there a printer server that can be setup to achieve this or one that can be added?  The printer server should only be accessible from the local network.

Is there a general mechanism for adding packages/services to m0n0wall??   eg "samba/swat" a "hosts" package .... etc

A couple of final questions ... I currently use SSH to allow me to tunnel into the local network from work using "putty" and "winscp" - is this going to work with m0n0wall??
Will I be able to use "certificate based authentication" only?  ie no username/password login - just a passphrase on the certificate?
TIA
Dave

There is no print server package in m0n0wall, no ssh server, etc. Also, m0nowall can not be extended this way, unless you rewrite it yourself to include what you are looking for.

If you want things like this running on your firewall, then take a look at pfsense. It's a fork of m0n0wall and can be extended.

Your question comes up fairly often. A search of the forum and mail lists archives would have answered it.

Thanks for the info - shame tho'

I *DID* search for "printer" and "print"  but neither turned up much of use :-(

Ah well.
